Maddie's Firsts

This weekend we took Maddie to her first two bbq's and had such a great time! She did so well and everyone kept asking us "Is she always this calm?" The answer was of course "no", but she was definitely showing off for us and made our outings with her very easy!

On Saturday we went over to Christina's house for a bbq dinner and we got to see Chaplin again. I hadn't seen him since he was about 7 weeks old (he's now almost 16 weeks)...he has gotten really big! He is a cutie though and it'll be a lot of fun to see the two of them playing together when they are older. The bbq's were also the first time we dressed her in true outfits and oh my goodness, did she look cute! Here's what she wore over to Christina's house...

Trying on her sun hat and striking a pose...

Her complete outfit (the onesie is a custom "Maddie" creation by my boss' wife and Christina gave her the skirt - so cute!)...

On Sunday we went over to my boss' house (Mike and Deb) for a bbq they were having. Everyone there had children and a couple of the babies were just 2 weeks older than Maddie. It was fun getting a glimpse into what our bbq's and future parties will be like with the kids running everywhere - we can't wait!! Mike's wife, Deb, is the one who created the Maddie onesie in the picture above - it is really adorable on her!

Her outfit for Mike and Deb's bbq...

We wanted to share some other "firsts" with you too...
* Her first freckle appeared about a week or two ago! It's a really small one, about the size of a pin prick, and is on the top of her head!
* About a week ago her eyelashes turned brown and are no longer strawberry blond...her eyebrows still are though!
* On Friday she sucked her thumb for the first time! We're going to try not to encourage that, but it was really cute!
* That night she got her first boo-boo, a little scab on her forehead from her seriously sharp fingernails. Thankfully its no larger than the new freckle!

We love you all!

Maddie in Action!

We are so sorry that we haven't posted in a while! Maddie has kept us busy and on our toes! We haven't taken many new photos to share with everyone, but we promise to get better about that. To help make up for that I took some video of Maddie this morning hoping to catch one of her big smiles on camera. She has the best smiles! There are great big ones where she opens her mouth big and the smile just takes over - I love those! They may be caused by the gas in her tummy, but they are just the cutest! She does wonderful small smiles too that touch our heart and let you know that she's a happy baby! On the video I wanted to catch one of her big smiles, but of course she saved the big ones for after I had turned the camera off! We hope you enjoy these though and listening to her talk with me. I love these conversations that we have!

We want to say thank you to everyone who has visited us too! We are so blessed to have such wonderful family - grandparents, aunts and uncles - who travel out to spend time with us. You are all loved and appreciated very much! Thank you, thank you!

All our love,
Nile, David & Maddie

6 Weeks Already!

Maddie turned 6 weeks old today! I can't believe that she is almost 2 months old now and that my maternity leave is half way over. Time is really going by quickly!

We couldn't have asked for a better check-up appointment today. Dr. Madden said she is doing perfectly and was happy with all of her stats. She now weighs 9 lbs, 6 ozs...up 2 lbs from her last appointment 4 weeks ago! She's also grown 2" and is 22" tall! Her height and weight both fall in between the 25th and 50th percentiles (so I guess around the 38th percentile?!) and her head circumference is in the 50th percentile so everything is right on track. She received her first series of immunization shots today too and was such a champ! She's been sleeping away most of the day and has been a cuddle bug, not wanting to sleep in her crib but on our chests instead. How can you say no to that when you look at a face as precious as hers?!

Papa Bob and Grandma Paula were in town this past week and we all had such a wonderful time! The visit went by way too quickly, but it was so neat to see them with Maddie and loving their role as grandparents! They were also a huge help to me in watching Maddie while I slept, showered or just took a moment for myself. Thank you both so much!

Here are a couple photos from the past week...Maddie is such a cutie pie! Her expression in the photo with Papa Bob and Grandma Paula just cracks us up!

Love you all!
